A number of DeNA employees have lost their job this week as part of what seems to be a wide-spread reduction in staff throughout the game company’s North American operations.
Word of the cutbacks was first brought to our attention by GamesBeat and confirmed by a DeNA representative, who declined to state exactly how many people were laid off or which DeNA offices were affected.
“We have decided to reshape the structure of our North American studio operations along with a reduction in workforce,” reads an excerpt of a company statement on the cutbacks provided to Gamasutra.
“We appreciate their contributions to DeNA and are grateful for the opportunity to have worked with them. The West will continue to be one of our core markets for our mobile gaming business.”
The company went on to make a show of tying these layoffs to internal restructuring efforts, and not to its recent partnership with Nintendo, whereby it hopes to make mobile games that will out-earn any of its releases to date.
